A message from our Champion Helen Alexander
On being appointed CBI president in 2009, I was proud to become the champion of the First Women Awards. I have genuinely been struck by the impact of the awards right across the UK. The First Women Awards are an emblem of how fast Britain is changing and of the people leading those changes.
As we recover from a deep recession, Britain will need women with fresh ideas and limitless ambition. Across business, professional and cultural life, women will invigorate Britain and build our future success. No-one should be excluded from that. Our society needs girls at school to feel that the world of work is right for them, and that they can thrive within it. The role models and mentors generated by these awards are of real value to the UK.
The First Women Awards were established by the CBI and Real Business magazine as a focal point for today’s and tomorrow’s female leaders. We are delighted once again to enjoy the support of our headline sponsor, Lloyds Banking Group.
The CBI is proud to be a partner in the First Women Awards. I encourage you to support us in whatever way you can, especially by putting forward your nominations for the 2011 awards.
Helen Alexander, president, CBI
