2008 First Woman of Property
Sandi Rhys Jones
Sandi Rhys Jones brings 35 years of experience, a hefty list of academic achievements and a strong focus on the importance of women in business to the construction and engineering sector. Having started her long and illustrious career working as a trainee news reporter and designer on Construction News, she carved a niche for herself as the only woman construction journalist at the time. After nine years forging a solid reputation in this field, she founded RhysJones, specialising in marketing and management for construction and engineering companies. She took up the position as the only woman on drafting committees for international engineering contracts for the International Federation of Consulting Engineers in Switzerland, before completing a Masters course in Construction Law and Arbitration at Kings College in London. Rhys is non-executive director of construction and development company Simons Group - a rare level of achievement for a woman in construction. She gives motivational talks to girls and women in schools and colleges encouraging them to view construction as a viable career option and an opportunity to achieve, as Rhys has, great satisfaction and success.
